Minimalist Wardrobe
For most of us, clothing is one of the top areas of clutter that we have. Due to weight fluctuations and the ever-fickle fashion industry, a lot of us fall into the trap of buying too many outfits that serve the same function.
We play many roles throughout the course of a week, each often requiring different clothing.
- Work Clothing
- Casual Clothing
- Work out gear
- Cooler Clothing for the Summer
- Brighter Clothing for the Spring
- Darker Clothing for Autumn
- Warmer Clothing for winter
- Clothing for vacation or the beach
- Clothing for Weddings or Funeral
It’s not necessarily an issue that you have to play different roles. Consolidating some of them would be great. Can you wear the same clothes for Casual and Work?
Our issue is that we often have too many sets of clothing for the same category. You don’t need eight pairs of sweats for lying around the house when one or two will do.
You don’t need five different suits for weddings when it’s been a decade since you last went to one.
It really is your decision as to what you hold on to but if you take the time to put things into categories and assess the category as a whole, while taking emotion out of it, you can set limits to what you need for each category.
Wear What Fits you Now
This is for the dieters out there. I do sport-specific training and during the offseasons, my weight can often fluctuate 20 – 30lbs. The key is to find an ideal weight and try to stay there. This is a weight that your body settles into, not the one where your binging or purging.
I understand why we want to hold onto clothing that we might fit into again some day. Holding on to the thin guy/gal clothing is only going to upset you until you get to your ideal weight. Wear what fits and flatters you now and when you hit your weight goal, replace your older clothes with a new outfit or two as a reward.
